Maja is an antifashist from Jena who got detained in December 2023 in Berlin. They are accused of having attacked faschist participants of the so called “Day of honor”, a neonazi event in Budapest. In June 2024 Maja was extradited to Hungary. The Federal Constitutional Court later ruled that the extradition was unlawful. Maja has been enduring appalling conditions in a Budapest prison for almost a year. The biggest problem is solitary confinement. That is why Maja went on hunger strike on June 5, 2025, after the decision on their transfer to house arrest was postponed. Maja demands to be transferred back to Germany in accordance with the ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court.
A hunger strike is all the more successful when the critical public, civil society, and social movements support the demands of the hunger strike.
What can you do to support Maja in their hunger strike and show solidarity with their struggle?
- Write letters to Maja (instructions and the address can be found here)
- Donate money
- Organize rallies and events in your city to raise awareness about Maja’s situation!
- Contact local politicians, the German Foreign Ministry, and Hungarian representatives in Germany. Either get creative yourself or use the prepared postcards that will be available in many places in Dresden starting next week. You can use these to remind politicians in the German Bundestag and the EU Parliament of what their Supreme Court already stated weeks ago: Maja’s extradition was unlawful and must be reversed immediately!
- Distribute flyers and information! Information material is available, for example, in malobeo
- Talk to comrades about the hunger strike
- Come to Queer Pride Dresden on June 21, 2025: Queer and antifascist – our bridges will hold!
