Andreas was in the hospital for surgery on Aug. 23, 2023, and survived. Although the diagnosis of Andreas’ bladder cancer was years ago, there was never any corresponding medical care, neither in prison in Italy nor in Germany. The judicial system has thus ensured that a diagnosis that was curable at the beginning has developed into a life-threatening disease.
After an operation like the one Andreas had, patients usually lie in hospital for 1.5 weeks under observation. Andreas was taken to the prison hospital in Tegel on 24.08.23 and on 27.08. directly back to his cell.
One consequence of the operation was massive water retention, indicating kidney failure. Yesterday (06.09.23) Andreas’ lawyer tried to call the prison to point out Andreas’ dramatic state of health, but no contact person could be found for him! In the meantime Andreas is a little bit better, because he got water tablets. The doctors in the detention center suddenly no longer talk about his kidneys, but tell us that he now allegedly has a heart problem.
But in addition to the health problems, the everyday harassment in Tegel continues.
Andreas did not receive the magazine GefangenenInfo (information about prisoners) because it was too political. Furthermore, postcards with slogans like Freedom for All and the like were not given to Andreas. In addition, three letters to Andreas were opened without him and not given to him. He is now not allowed to receive stamps or envelopes with stamps anymore, but is supposed to buy them himself!
But this was not enough insolence!
Andreas already had a razor in Moabit. This was examined for almost 50 euro, so that he may use it in the detention center. In Tegel the thing looks now again completely differently. Andreas is not allowed to use this device although it has been examined. Instead, and this is simply absurd, the common practice in Tegel is that detained people are only allowed to order things via Amazon. This means that if Andreas would like to shave he has to buy a new device that is available in a catalog that can only be ordered through Amazon. Apparently Amazon has a deal with Tegel and earns money from detainees who already have hardly any money.
We demand an end to the harassment!
