Maja went on hunger strike today, June 5, 2025.
Maja has been in pretrial detention for eleven months—isolated, deprived of their rights, and held in conditions akin to torture. Nothing has changed in Maja’s situation for eleven months.
Now Maja is taking the ultimate step: a hunger strike.
The reason for this is the renewed postponement of a decision on the conversion of their pretrial detention to house arrest. Instead of acting immediately, the court in Budapest, Hungary has postponed the decision until June 20. Maja is no longer willing to endure this intolerable situation and wait for decisions from a judiciary that has systematically violated their rights over the past months.
“I demand that I be transferred back to Germany, that I be allowed to return to my family, and that I be able to participate in the proceedings in Hungary from home.”
