FREE MAJA DEMO IN DRESDEN | SATURDAY 29.06.2024 | 18:00 | SCHLOSSPLATZ

The Berlin Court of Appeal ruled on Thursday evening that Maja, left-wing, anti-fascist and queer, should be extradited to Hungary, a country with a right-wing radical government! A country that was already denied democratic status by the EU Parliament in September 2022. The Court of Appeal thus follows the assessment of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office that Hungary will be given priority in the proceedings. This is as expected as it is inconceivable. The German state is arming itself with its flawless rule of law, but if it suits you, you can let your own citizens mold in the most inhumane conditions in Hungarian prisons.

In Germany, it would be impossible to lock Maja away for up to 24 years for the alleged acts. This is threatening in Hungary, after a show trial in which the verdict is determined from the outset, without the presumption of innocence playing a role. With this knowledge, the judge decided to extradite Maja, to put Maja in solitary confinement with bed bugs, mice and cockroaches, with a lack of health care and nutrition and into the danger that Maja, as a queer person, is threatened with being exposed to daily violence by guards and fellow inmates.

Did the Berlin court decide this way to make an example of Maja? In order not to jeopardize harmonious, economic cooperation with Orban? To show a left-wing anti-fascist in principle what the consequences of opposing Nazis are? Germany is thus supporting the European shift to the right, standing shoulder to shoulder with Orban in the persecution of anti-fascists.

This verdict is inconceivable, our anger and worry and sadness is huge.

Freedom for Maja, Hanna, Ilaria, Tobi and all other anti-fascists! All together against fascism!
