On 24th of february several groups organized events around Dresden in solidarity with Ukraine and people fighting russian imperialism. At the Jorge Gomondai place flyers with information on how to donate to grasroot organizations in Ukraine organising support of fighters and civilians were banned by the police for lacking Impressum information.
This indeed goes against the regulations of the printed materials in the country. However what is more important is that normally police doesn’t pay attention to such details and multiple activists from the city confirmed that this is normally not the case if people decide to stay anonymous while distributing political messages.
We see this as a manifestation of political views of police officers at the spot, that used their power to supress solidarity with people from Ukraine in our city. One year since the beginning of the war such actions show once again that police forces is a big problem in Saxony. Systematic support of extreme right forces inside police show the threat of further abuse of power in favor of the extreme right politics in the country.
We see that in Germany no matter which coalitions are ruling on the local level, the police problem is not addressed and most probably won’t be addressed in the future. German liberals, centrists and leftists believe that police will protect them from extreme right violence. All of them seem to ignore the history of police in this country as well as constant facts of right-wing politics inside police forces.
